Large language models (LLMs) represent one of the wonders of the modern world. Much has been written on their impact on education, but this is often with respect to their ability to cheat on assignments, or otherwise skip the necessary work for learning. While those topics are concerning, I find that I am much more excited by how LLMs might be used to learn better and faster.
During the Fall of 2023, I ran a class (NEUR 477 Learning with Large Language Models) where I found students with a similar excitement to explore this new tool. In this course, students and I worked together to compile a small book on how they used LLMs to master new fields of inquiry. The book can be downloaded here, or viewed below.
